Nostalgia

So... it's been a while since we've posted on here

Resha messaged me a while ago to show me the blog. I found myself typing it in on google and having a little nostalgic moment - i miss the afro et al, not so much the London part as i live there :P

But i can give you a little update: as some of you may or may not know, one of my big time interests is photography! Show me a good picture, amazing camera, scenery that looks fab and nice building... ANYTHING to do with or that links to photography and i'm happy.
Something about capturing that one second of a moment and being able to treasure it forever! Even writing it has me smiling like a child whose been told they can open their presents on Christmas morning...

How does this link to hair, i here you ask?
Well images of hairstyles are taken by people and somehow in my head that links to photography! We also have a pictures section on the page which hopefully will be updated with nice pictures - not just hairstyles, but maybe make up things we try, visuals of London and stuff like that. eeeek the excitement is too much to contain

Remembering that we are all in uni, we will try to keep the updates coming as often as we can - whether that be in the next month or next week i'm not sure but keep a look out!

there's some sneaky little visuals for you...
what about the hair?

well... you'll have to come back next time so we can show you :P

8 months in! Félicitations

That last post was a bit sad wasn't it. Oh well back to being overly obsessed lool. Remember what seems like ages ago when I said I was not straightening my hair for a year; well I've kind of stopped this challenge a bit early BUT  I am still proud of myself for lasting 8 months! 8 long months and with a couple of major and minor trims I have somehow ended up at the same length as before lol but no worries, I'm not gonna stress about it, all in its own time mate. Want to see some pics of where I am now?
Boom!
All up in your grill there

Wow, I can just hear ShamelessMaya in my head. I am influenced WAY too easily and YouTube is just so ADDiCTIVE I can't help it. Speaking of the way I talk, did you notice the French in my title, I'm learning more and more each day and soon I'll be all fluent just watch me

It's been nice chatting to you, we should really do this more often because you know....I got a lot of free time, so just hollah when you need me. Payce x

Am I a blogger?

Every time I come back to this blog I have high expectations for how I want my post to be; " It needs high quality pictures! Jokes! Pazaaaz!" I say but maybe my good intentions are holding me back. My need for perfection only results in me rejecting multiple 'could of been great' posts. I guess now ill just chill and post whatever comes to my mind without a schedule. Maybe I'm not born to be a blogger but I can pretend every once in a whole.

Au Revoir x

tall me, tall i be...

so, if you're like me - a girl who is tall - you probably experience that issue of having to find jeans that are long enough and tops with sleeves that actually cover all of your arm!

I remember the first time i told my friends that i have to buy 34-36" jeans. Or the fact that the reason i couldn't buy the "normal" size skirt from the shop was due to the fact that for me it was waaaaaayyy to short. Their faces were classic - something like this :/ haha

What happened to one size fits all?

But on my journey of finding decent clothes, i discovered that New Look have an online tall section (woohoo) but it's not available in the shops (boo). And Topshop have an AMAZING tall section too!

I have literally fallen in love with them, especially as they took the time to cater to the needs of girls like me lool, no more chinos which are really regular size jeans. Bring on the full leg jeans!

Photo 1 of Tall MOTO Super High Waist Jeans  so i found these high-waisted jeans in Topshop which are AWESOMEEEE!

They come in regular length and tall (a mighty 36")

So, for those of you out there looking for these places that do fashionable items for tall people - look no further... Topshop is the place, oh and New Look too :)

see ya x

a poem...

This is a time of expression,
Come in, let me open the door to this journey i've been on
The roads in which my footsteps are embedded
Those experiences personal to me

Do you hear the music?
Do you see the tapping of many feet and the bobbing of heads to the beat?

Carnival time
A time of laughter, joy, music, dance and all things nice... to me
All the sweet jamaican food i imagine placed before me on a row of stalls
Dumplings, patties, ackee & salfish
What's that?
Yes, the fried chicken was there too!

A poem...
A poem which shows a time of expression
Come in, let me open the door to this journey i've been on
The links on the page where our thoughts are embedded
Those experiences personal to us.

Bun Challenge - June 2013

Photography by Quinland Anderson.
It's June now and we're at that time when every one wants to cut their hair real short. I must admit, it's rather tempting - but for now I have it in this simple style for the weekend. Last week was definitely a hair out week but I'm using Giovanni conditioner, coconut oil and eco styler gel to keep it together in this picture.

I have set myself a challenge to have my hair in a bun for the whole of June. I want to see if this is a good protective style and if I can retain any length this way. I don't have much rules for this challenge other than wash and moisturise when necessary and maybe ill give myself 2-3 days to wear it down so I don't get too restless. Time to get creative and find lots of headbands to wear!

Length Check:
Front: 9-10 inches
Back: 8 inches
Side: 9 inches
Middle: 10 inches

STYLES TO TRY

Simple low bun
Big bun (+afro/Marley hair)

rolled/twisted side
oooh Fancy!

Fake drawstring afro puff
Retro B-)

Lets get growing!

My Fairytale

Hey guys, I have a little story to tell you.  I hope you're sitting comfortably...

Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful princess called Siobhan...hahaha, I joke..

So basics, I've been having a bit of a hair emergency recently + I thought I'd share. (sharing is caring after all, hehe) My hair has been a nightmare recently.  It was in that not straight, not curly, just annoying stage!  Couldn't do anything with it.
So today, I decided to wash it (I can hear the hallelujah chorus).  I was well excited, my hair would be back to normal again..
I used my shampoo + conditioner >

So when i was done I was in a pickle about what I should do next; should i keep it curly, should I have it straight? SO many options ini! haha.  Well in the end i decided to Straighten it.  I started by blow-drying, of course with this...
and then I started straightening, BUT then a terrible thing happened! What? I hear you ask...
My straighteners were generating too much smoke, and because I'm in university halls, the smoke detectors are VERY sensitive :( (all you uni students will understand my predicament) my plans were ruined.
SO instead of my hair looking like this...
It looks like this...

THE end :(

Peace out y'all xx

Hair update: May 2013 &&Many Pics!

I wasn't sure which blog to post this on so I decided to put it on both.

Hello all my Afros and Weirdo’s :D
This is just a little update, I'm back to trying my braid outs again, though I feel ever since I cut (or was it an extended trim) my hair it looks a bit different and I have to approach my hair styling differently too.

I started off like this:

hair out or hair in

hellooooo my lovelies,

it's that time where i've had my hair in extensions for a while and i am aching to comb my hair! There is a bit of a dilemma though... it's exam tiiimee and washing natural hair isn't exactly a quick 'dip in the water and out'
in fact i don't think the process is that easy for anyone regardless of whether they use chemicals or not!

But oh how i wish it was

hmm as i'm here i thought i'd like to show some pictures of natural hair...

why have i shown all of these pictures? (from Google mind you lol)

well because all of these hair-types are NATURAL!! And if you have a genuine love for any type of hair, as i do, then you will appreciate all hair! I love relaxed hair too, even if my own hair cannot handle chemicals it looks extremely good on some women (please refer to the last picture above).

so what ever you hair-type, embrace it, love it and woorrk it!

oh yeah those extensions hmm they may just be coming out soon!!

see ya
p.s. this London sunshine is just amazing :D

Beyoncé

I was told not to span this page with Beyoncé but honestly, is this site even fulfilled without her! Okay, I'm joking but in all seriousness I do love her and I love her new song. She has combined with H&M, one of my favourite stores, known for its affordable fashion. Being Beyoncé her commercial not only includes fabulous clothes (that I know I will be able to afford!) but a great new summer song, albeit it only being 1:31 seconds long - I got that on repeat!
And we can't forget her Pepsi commercial, Beyoncé is just on fire these days and can you believe a year ago she had a baby and she's still working that HOT body. That's some inspiration for the future! Check her out!

Have a wonderful day
xx

My First Post, woooo!

Hey Y'all,

It's Siobhan, or Sibz/Sibby :)

So, Lianne and Resha have invited me to join your blogging world, and be apart of the London's Afro crew! + I must say, I'm well excited!  I've never done anything like this before, so you'll have to bare with me as I learn the ropes and ting, lol.
It is a strange feeling, blogging, It's like writing in your diary, (like i have a diary anymore, pshtttt :p) but sharing it with the whole world to see! (okay that was a bit overdramatic, but yeah, haha)
Anyhoo, I'm eager to get started, the sky is the limit!

Ciao for now my lovelies

love Sibby x

Saturday 23 March 2013

so, what about the other stuff we promised

so, if you've had a good look through London's Afro, you would have seen that we said it would be a good idea to also mention some fashionable items or just clothes that we love

The other day i was searching the web and came across this:

this is the beautiful Elle Varner!

i absolutely LOVE what she is wearing... not only is she wearing kente/african cloth in an unbelievably casual way but omdz, do you see her hair! It's natural and huge, just the way i like it

i'm not sure i could copy this style directly, but when i am able to find a shop that can make me a kente skirt/dress, i'll invest in a nice black blazer and bounce with my afro...

yes people will stare but remember it's only out of admiration :D

these dresses are pretty cool too - my favourite one has to be the last one.

and as i was on google getting some images :o loookkk.....

i found a skirt! i have no idea where to buy it but i would definitely like to invest in one very soon.
maybe one with a pattern similar to this but in the design above eeeek!

God bless and enjoy your beauty
see you later our beautiful readers x

What am i doing with my (hair) Life? && African Headbands

Guys I'm sorry but do you see this

I am NOT happy
I cut a bit of my hair off the other day, not much, about an inch or two and I feel baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllld
How does that even work? I'm genuinely perplexed
Anyway, enough of hiding my hair, I'm cowashing and going back to my braid outs tonight!
*Remembering back to the times when i was happy LOL*
Life was so easy, get up, (un-braid) and go, sometimes I didn't even always have to do that un-braiding step! Just took of the satin scarf!
I need to have a talk with myself, what made me deviate from such a great routine. I just have moment sometimes, where I don't think straight. The 'slow' moments...*sigh*
ANYWHO
Yesssss
Another point I wanted to touch on...
Do you like African Prints?
I love them!
I always have...I'm thinking to invest in a few headbands like these

Maybe not this EXACT thing (actually I really like the first two, might enquire about those) but yes, I really love the bright colours! I need colour in my life. I mean even my hair is against me, its just black, it need accessorizing.

Later Guys
xx

Sorry for the scatty post, ah suh mi think...

I've Been Rocking The Braid Out Look

After I took out my hair extensions out i cowashed and plaited my hair to dry, too it out and saw that it looked good! And I've been doing it ever since. Well, up until i cut my hair....

Saturday 2 March 2013

extensions and naturalness...

Hi again,
I'm a little excited with the posts today! I'm making up for my lack over blogging over the past month or so

I tried out these two hairstyles using Sensationnel afro extensions

I went to the hair shop

Have you ever had that moment when you went to the hair shop to buy 1 product...
may i just reiterate that 1 PRODUCT! (some hair extensions)

I came out with bobby pins

2 chunky hair bands

a pack of 9 hair slides (for £1!)

ohh yeah and those extensions by Sensationnel

but about those hair clips! I had no idea what i was going to do with them when i bought them but it helped me do this.
(i was in the middle of twisting my hair which is why there are twists at the back lol)
so... if you have a wedding coming up or a fancy event try these out!!
Love ya
