My Fairytale

Hey guys, I have a little story to tell you.  I hope you're sitting comfortably...

Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful princess called Siobhan...hahaha, I joke..

So basics, I've been having a bit of a hair emergency recently + I thought I'd share. (sharing is caring after all, hehe) My hair has been a nightmare recently.  It was in that not straight, not curly, just annoying stage!  Couldn't do anything with it.
So today, I decided to wash it (I can hear the hallelujah chorus).  I was well excited, my hair would be back to normal again..
I used my shampoo + conditioner >

So when i was done I was in a pickle about what I should do next; should i keep it curly, should I have it straight? SO many options ini! haha.  Well in the end i decided to Straighten it.  I started by blow-drying, of course with this...
and then I started straightening, BUT then a terrible thing happened! What? I hear you ask...
My straighteners were generating too much smoke, and because I'm in university halls, the smoke detectors are VERY sensitive :( (all you uni students will understand my predicament) my plans were ruined.
SO instead of my hair looking like this...
It looks like this...

THE end :(

Peace out y'all xx

Hair update: May 2013 &&Many Pics!

I wasn't sure which blog to post this on so I decided to put it on both.

Hello all my Afros and Weirdo’s :D
This is just a little update, I'm back to trying my braid outs again, though I feel ever since I cut (or was it an extended trim) my hair it looks a bit different and I have to approach my hair styling differently too.

I started off like this:

What am i doing with my (hair) Life? && African Headbands

Guys I'm sorry but do you see this

I am NOT happy
I cut a bit of my hair off the other day, not much, about an inch or two and I feel baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllld
How does that even work? I'm genuinely perplexed
Anyway, enough of hiding my hair, I'm cowashing and going back to my braid outs tonight!
*Remembering back to the times when i was happy LOL*
Life was so easy, get up, (un-braid) and go, sometimes I didn't even always have to do that un-braiding step! Just took of the satin scarf!
I need to have a talk with myself, what made me deviate from such a great routine. I just have moment sometimes, where I don't think straight. The 'slow' moments...*sigh*
ANYWHO
Yesssss
Another point I wanted to touch on...
Do you like African Prints?
I love them!
I always have...I'm thinking to invest in a few headbands like these

Maybe not this EXACT thing (actually I really like the first two, might enquire about those) but yes, I really love the bright colours! I need colour in my life. I mean even my hair is against me, its just black, it need accessorizing.

Later Guys
xx

Sorry for the scatty post, ah suh mi think...

extensions and naturalness...

Hi again,
I'm a little excited with the posts today! I'm making up for my lack over blogging over the past month or so

I tried out these two hairstyles using Sensationnel afro extensions

I went to the hair shop

Have you ever had that moment when you went to the hair shop to buy 1 product...
may i just reiterate that 1 PRODUCT! (some hair extensions)

I came out with bobby pins

2 chunky hair bands

a pack of 9 hair slides (for £1!)

ohh yeah and those extensions by Sensationnel

but about those hair clips! I had no idea what i was going to do with them when i bought them but it helped me do this.
(i was in the middle of twisting my hair which is why there are twists at the back lol)
so... if you have a wedding coming up or a fancy event try these out!!
Love ya

So, i have a treat for you all...

It's picture's of my hair in its current state.

below are a few pictures i've taken of my hair with a little information under each one.

okay, here i had loosened a twist (had my hair in single twists all week)! I just wanted to see what it was like and again nice curls were achieved

last but not least i straightened some parts of my hair just because i was curious, and here we have it after 1 year and 2 months :) (please excuse the lack of make-up lool i decided to really embrace the naturalness!)

This look was achieved by greasing my hair with Dax, cornrowing it and going to bed! when i woke up i gently loosed out each cornrow making, what i like to call, a "lazy braid out"

I hope this encourages you all to continue on your natural journey. God bless x

Shrinkage!

Some naturals have some major shrinkage. Now I have my times where I feel my hair is looking a bit short but I can’t even begin to imagine having hair that can stretch down to my waist and shrinks up to my ears. I think Li has more shrinkage than I have which I think is so cool. Long hair one day and a little afro (TWA) the next, tricking everyone. I think once upon a time my hair had more shrinkage however I feel with all the heat I've used my hair just doesn't remember lol. I just wanted to show you these ladies that I have found on the internet that compare their shrinkage. They are an inspiration for growing their hair to the lengths they have.  It just goes to show that it is not just those with looser textures who have hair that grows long and they also have shrinkage!

water: friend or enemy...

what's upppp London's afro's:

i've come to discuss the controversial issue of water!
for a lot of natural hair people water can often be seen as the enemy, especially if your hair is like mine
there is only one style that works on my hair (and i'm being completely serious), it has to be afro...

things that do not work on my hair:
1] hot comb
2] straighteners
3] texturisers
4] relaxers (though i never have and never will try it because i like big hair)
5] basically anything that makes your hair straight

things that do work on my hair:
1] a blowdryer

this....   ladies and gents, is my friend lol

let me get to the point of this post now:
water can be a bit of a hassle for natural hair people! going out on a rainy day, on a hot day, when there is somehow water in the air, having a shower/bath, cooking, partying - if you let it water can be an enemy to your hair.

but...

you can embrace the fact that your hair is never in one particular way

for the ladies (my hair goes like this if i wet it fully once with water)

for the gents (and the ladies :P)

twist-out corrine
this is a beautiful example of a twist-out that has worked, and it's worn with confidence! show us your twist outs girlies!
what's a twist out i hear you ask... my dear friend its a combination of water and twists, yep you heard me WATER! see it can be your friend.

go natural and tie it up, let your puff show off your beauty.

alternatively you could go for weave! curl it and twist-out the front of your hair so it matches no-one will be able to tell the difference (unless a bad hairdresser has done it, or you tell them).

so there you have it my lovelies, water is a friend to your afro (at the right times). if your hair is like mine i.e. has 0% resistance to water join me in the journey of learning how to embrace it!

Love ya xx

loooooook

LOOOOOK at the amazing hair on this beautiful lady's head!
inspiration has just hit a new level of high

what's up afroooosss

heya reader/follows/beauties,

i havent been on here to say anything for a while because my hair is currently in extensions.
i know, i know that's no excuse!

so i'm back blogging now
(as my internet wasn't working for about two weeks #torture)

ive mimicked the hairstyle done by Jada with the fine extensions that are literally just a bit longer than my natural hair. this hairstyle is so easy to maintain! the plaits are small and manageable, it can be tied up or left down without it getting trapped everywhere because its too long!

and more importantly it doesn't weigh your head down.
now i'm someone who loves to be the only one rocking a particular style, so while everyone had longer plaits i've gone for the short ones, although this is worth sharing

Much love daaarrr-lings xx

noooo it's me next :(

apparently its time for me to upload some pics of my hair when im washing it
arrgh, this wont be good because unlike resha's hair, mine shrinks dramatically when it gets wet!

i have to brace myself for this embarrassment but the pictures should be up (hopefully) by the end of this week!
  > expresses my exact feelings when i realise i have to blowdry my dramatically shrunken hair lool

then i'll show you my hair blow-dried out so you can see the level of shrinkage im talking about
and the process of me doing my hair in extensions (which i do myself because its more practical and cost-effective to do so)

see you later my little peek-a-boos xx

All kinks round 'ere

In yesterdays post you would have seen my hair laying down looking all nice in its wet state. Looking like I'm coolie or something. Oh no no honey, I get down and nappy like the rest of you lool
Looks like a tangled mess, well, it is! I probably should have put some conditioner or oil in it. Ah well we live and we learn :)
Do you see the straight bits at the back, that's exactly why the flat iron/ straightener had to go !

Just a taster (co-washing)

My own mates didn't even know what I did to my hair so I hella know ya'll wont (hope i said that correctly...maybe I should just stick to what I know.
Wah gwan naturals and transitioners out there I just tried co-washing again(can't forget you relaxed and texturised sisters AND dudes). There was a time when I used to do this almost daily and my mum and grandma used to warn me that if i kept playing with my hair so much it would fall out haha, [i must show you some comparison shots]
But yeah, its so simple, especially with TRESemmé naturals conditioner, it has so much slip that i can finger detangle my hair easily! Let me show you...

First of all, here's my dry hair, just before washing it; haven't done anything special to it beforehand. Had previously washed and bantu knotted (china/chiney bumped) over a week ago and had been plaiting/braiding at night times.

Hopped in the shower and thoroughly wet my hair under the showerhead. result, instant curls! Love the look of my wet hair, such a shame it doesnt exactly have that look dry lool
The steam in the shower was starting to cloud my camera lens

The magic stuff! haha joking, this works for me but you never know what will work for you, try different conditioners to see which one is the best for your hair :)
This was supposed to show how much I used but I in fact used much more than this so lets just say that I'm showing you what it looks like.

Hair started to shrink whilst in the shower, however this is what my hair looked like when i put the conditioner in. Can't see it at all, it all my disappears when i put this in my hair.

Decided to put my hair into a low bun once i finished   rinsing the conditioner out (to stretch it out a little and get it out of the way a bit).

Hair about two minutes later. Looks quite pretty if i do say so myself

And thats it! wasnt that simple, took probably 10 - 15 minutes, could do it before school or work.
Go on, try it! Then show me :)
